Sierra’s Story
Sierra never imagined raising her boys alone. When her partner left, she was pregnant and overwhelmed, struggling to hold it together.
Battling mental health challenges, she feared she couldn’t be the mother her boys deserved, but the boys had just lost their dad and Sierra was determined to keeping her family together. She wanted nothing more than to end the cycle of generational trauma that had affected her family for years.
Breaking that cycle while carrying so much on her shoulders felt impossible, until she found the Nursery.
Family Advocates provided the support she desperately needed and worked tirelessly for them to feel safe. Sierra talked about her fears and stressors openly. When she began focusing on her own health, she started to feel excited to be alive; excitement for what was possible.
Her boys thrived too. They moved beyond hitting and fighting to the kind, resilient young men she dreamed they could be.
For Sierra, the Nursery is a lifeline. She is dreaming of going back to school, starting a business, and raising her kids in a loving, gentle home. You make this work possible! Philanthropic partners like you make up more than 80% of the $5.3 million it takes to fund the Nursery this year.
The WHY
Hundreds of families experiencing crisis turn to Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery every year. They are facing housing instability, financial stress, domestic violence, exhaustion, and other difficult situations.
Your support connects these families to critical resources to help stabilize their family and move them out of crisis. It takes $1,300 to care for a child for 3 days. They are provided with homemade meals, winter clothing, enriching play and new friendships, a warm cozy bed at tuck-in time, and highly qualified staff to care for them around the clock.
Nursery services are free to families because of caring individuals. In fact, 80% of the Nursery’s $5.3 million budget comes from contributions from generous people like you.
Today, YOU can be the difference between crisis and stability for a child and their family. Thank you for your commitment to strengthening families and giving children a bright future.
